One of Mozart's earliest pieces, a graceful 3/4 dance in F major: broken-chord leaps in the right hand over a simple bass line and a triplet in bar 7. The second part turns to G minor, brings the opening back in bar 17, pauses on a fermata over a deceptive cadence in bar 20 and ends with the phrase again. The first part is repeated.
How to practise it
Bars 1-3 each start with a slurred pair of eighth notes, then the right hand leaps down to two quarter notes. Play the pair smoothly and the quarters lighter, like a dance step.
Bar 7 has a triplet: three eighth notes in one beat. Loop bars 7-8 at 60 BPM, keep the three notes even and land the B♭ on the second beat.
Bars 9-12 turn to G minor with E♭ and F♯. Read the accidentals before you play, and listen for the darker colour.
Bar 20 has a fermata in both hands, so hold it a little longer. Then go back to tempo for the last phrase in bars 21-24.
