Privacy
How Musicanyya handles your data, on musicanyya.com and in the Musicanyya desktop app.
In short
- No cookies, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking.
- Your own files, progress and settings stay in your own browser (in the desktop app: on your computer). They are never sent to us.
- Like every web server, ours writes a short technical log of each request, including your IP address, to keep the site running and secure.
Who runs Musicanyya
Musicanyya is run by Niralynx (niralynx.com), which is responsible for the data described here (the "controller" in the words of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR). To contact us, for example to use your rights below, use the contact details on niralynx.com.
What your browser keeps
To work, the app keeps a few things in your browser's storage on your device. Each is kept only because you use that part of the app, stays on your device, and is read only by the app:
- Settings you choose: the language, the colour theme, volume, score size, metronome and orchestra levels, Practice and Play options, the latency calibration, the chosen audio output and how the score browser is shown, including whether it has already shown its one-time thank-you note.
- Your progress: what you have practised and played in each score, how far you are in the learning guide, and a note of which data upgrades the app has already done.
- Your own files: the music files you open ("My files") and the scores you opened recently, so you can open them again.
- Kept attempts: the keys you pressed in a Play run and when, and whether you played them on a MIDI keyboard or on the screen (with the mouse, a finger or a pen), so you can see that run's results again.
- Copies of the piano sound and the library scores, so they need not be downloaded again. They are the same for everyone and contain nothing about you.
To delete all of it, clear this site's data in your browser (in Chrome, for example: the icon to the left of the address, then Site settings, then Delete data). You then lose your settings, your progress, your own files and your kept attempts, and the app starts afresh.
In a private window, the browser deletes all of it when you close the window. If your browser blocks site storage, the app keeps nothing beyond the open page.
What the server logs
When your browser asks the server for a page or a file, the server writes a line into its technical log, as every web server does. Such a line holds:
- your IP address,
- the date and time,
- the address asked for, and the page that linked to it,
- your browser's description of itself (its name and version, and your operating system),
- the answer's status and size, and how long it took.
We use these logs only to keep the site working and secure: to find errors, and to recognise and stop attacks or misuse. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a working, secure site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The logs are kept only as long as they are needed for these purposes. They are not shared, not combined with other data, and not used for tracking, profiling or advertising.
Where the site is hosted
The site runs on a server rented from Hetzner Online GmbH, in a data centre in Germany. Your connection to it is encrypted (HTTPS). The logs above stay on that server.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access the data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, and to object to processing that rests on our legitimate interest. To use these rights, contact us (see "Who runs Musicanyya"). A log line can usually be linked to you only through your IP address and the time of your visit, so please give both. What your browser keeps never reaches us; you can delete it yourself at any time, as described above.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, for example the one in the country where you live.
The desktop app
The Musicanyya desktop app keeps the same things as above, in its own storage on your computer. It sends nothing anywhere: it needs no server, sets no cookies and has no analytics. When you follow a link from the app to another site, it opens in your normal browser, where that site's own rules apply. The links in this notice do not open in the desktop app's notice window; to contact us, type niralynx.com into your browser.
Changes to this notice
We update this notice whenever the app or the site changes what it keeps or logs.
